Dr. Steven O. Laing is the Coordinator of the Administrative/Supervisory Certificate Program at USU. Dr. Laing is a former State Superintendent for Public Instruction in Utah, retiring from that position and a career in public education in 2004. During his career as a public educator, he has served as a teacher, high school principal, curriculum director, applied technology director, and local superintendent. Dr. Laing received his bachelor’s of science degree from Southern Utah University, with a major in mathematics. His master’s and doctoral degrees were earned at Brigham Young University in educational leadership. His service has included seats on the boards of directors of the Council of Chief State School Officers, WestEd (including chairing that board), and the Utah High School Activities Association (where he was inducted into their hall of fame in March, 2006). Dr. Laing currently serves as the chair of the community advisory board for Utah State University’s Brigham City Campus.
